CPL (Contract Pharmaceuticals Limited) is proud to announce that Chetan Chure, M. Pharm., PhD, recently presented his latest research on advanced mucoadhesive drug delivery systems at the 2025 AAPS PharmSci360 annual meeting.
The study, titled “Impact of Polymer Selection on Mucoadhesive Gel Performance across Topical, Buccal, and Nasal Routes,” addresses a critical challenge in pharmaceutical science: extending drug residence time and enhancing absorption at mucosal surfaces. Dr. Chure’s research provides a roadmap for developers to select the ideal polymer types and concentrations to optimize delivery for specific physiological environments.
Key Research Highlights:
- Site-Specific Optimization: The study identifies how formulation performance varies significantly between topical, buccal, and nasal applications based on the unique physiological characteristics of each site.
- Enhanced Retention: By analyzing rheology and mucoadhesive strength, the research demonstrates that optimized polymer ratios significantly improve adhesion, leading to better drug absorption and potentially superior patient outcomes.
- Rational Formulation: Dr. Chure utilized a systematic method—incorporating Diclofenac sodium (1 to 10% w/w) into a clear gel base—to evaluate how polymer-mucosa interactions dictate the effectiveness of the delivery system.
“Our findings emphasize that effective mucosal delivery isn’t one-size-fits-all,” said Dr. Chure. “By understanding the synergy between polymer characteristics and site-specific needs, we can design more targeted, patient-focused therapies.”
Dr. Chure would like to extend his sincere gratitude to Jigar Patel and Hannah Wang for their invaluable support and dedication throughout this project. For more information on CPL’s development capabilities, visit the CPL official website.
