IVPT generates the permeation profile of an active molecule in a specific drug formulation and tells us how much of the applied drug is entering the skin and passing through the different layers of the skin.
IVPT provides crucial information about how much of the applied drug is entering the skin and its localization within the skin. This information is useful in formulation development as it helps us tune the formulation to achieve permeation levels adequate for efficacy as well as deliver the drug to the layer of interest or site of action.
IVPT is an indispensable tool for the development of generic formulations as well, where it helps to match the permeation profile of the generic to the RLD or Comparator. Regulatory agencies require the two permeation profiles be statistically equivalent for bioequivalence.
